HDB Greenprint

Around 5,800 households in Teck Ghee estate in Ang Mo Kio can look forward to improved living conditions under the Housing and Development Board’s (HDB) Greenprint initiative.

Launched on Saturday, Teck Ghee is the second neighbourhood after Yuhua in Jurong East to benefit from the introduction of environmentally-friendly features.

This is expected to benefit residents of 40 HDB blocks at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, from Blocks 401 to 421 and 456 to 476.

Works will be carried out in phases from 2015 to 2018, and includes construction of an automated waste collection system, installation of rooftop solar panels, improvements to pedestrian paths and cycling tracks, and more greenery.

The retrofitting and improvement works are estimated to cost $38.3 million in total, more than the $23 million for the Yuhua pilot project which is set to complete later this year.

Commenting, HDB CEO Dr Cheong Koon Hean said, “Building sustainable towns that offer green living has always been a focus for HDB, for both new and older flats. We aim to make every new flat an eco-flat.”
