The Home Improvement Programme currently applies to flats built up to 1986 that have not undergone the Main Upgrading Programme.
The government’s fiscal position and budget availability will have to be taken into consideration in deciding whether to expand the Home Improvement Programme (HIP), National Development Minister Lawrence Wong said in Parliament on Tuesday, 8 November.
His statement was made in response to a question from MP Lee Bee Wah on whether the HIP could be extended to flats built after 1986 when they reach 30 years.
Introduced in 2007, the scheme applies to flats built up to 1986 that have not undergone the Main Upgrading Programme.
To date, more than 200,000 of the 300,000 eligible flats have been identified to undergo this programme, said Wong.
“HDB is working to first complete the selection of the remaining flats eligible for HIP by FY2018 before assessing whether to extend HIP beyond the current cohort of flats,” he added.
