Crystals are popular not just for their aesthetic value but also their purported powers. Different forms of crystals represent different types of energy, and when applied correctly, are believed to improve one’s well-being.
In feng shui, crystals are also known as feng shui stones, and are classified based on their natural elemental attribution — water, wood, fire, earth and metal. The elements interact with one another in both productive and destructive ways. A productive cycle would look like this: Water – wood – fire – earth – metal, while a destructive cycle would look like this: Water – fire – metal – wood – earth.
The nature of the elements reflects the law of nature and its cyclical process. The five elements demonstrate the flow of energy of the universe. A crystal’s elemental attribution can be identified from its natural colour, be it blue or black (water), green (wood), red, purple or pink (fire), brown or yellow (earth), or white (metal).
Most feng shui masters will introduce an appropriate crystal to make up for any missing elements, as well as to regulate the flow of energy within a space.
Application of different crystals
Clear quartz
Clear quartz is a very versatile crystal and can do a variety of jobs – from cleansing, clearing, protecting and strengthening your energy field to carrying any specific quality of energy.
It produces an abundance of light and rainbows, and is also popular among interior designers because its clear colour works with any interior design theme.
Place it where fresh, clear energy is needed, but be sure not to place it next to your bed, especially the headboard; its dynamic energy may interfere with your sleep.
Amethyst
The deep violet of this crystal calms emotions and alleviate anxiety. Amethyst can be placed in your office cubicle to enable you to better handle issues. At home, it can be placed in the bedroom to improve romantic relationships. If you have children, placing it in their study area can facilitate a calmer environment for focus and concentration in study.
Amethyst is known for its absorbency, meaning it can neutralise negative energy. As such, it is one of the best crystals for a meditation room or an altar.
Rose quartz

Its protective qualities have a dynamic nature and transmute negative energy very quickly. It simultaneously protects and strengthens its user, leaving him with a stronger, more vibrant and balanced energy field.
Because of its strong earthly energy, tiger’s eye offers stability, integrity and trustworthiness when placed at the correct trigrams. defined by the presence of the earth element.
