FASTrack Iskandar unveiled the design of Fastrackcity in Iskandar Malaysia on Tuesday (6 December), with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak officiating the ceremony.
To be completed by 2019, the development is expected to become an automotive lifestyle hub for motorsport fans in Malaysia, Singapore and beyond.
Fastrackcity will feature a 4.45 km Grade 1 Internationale Automobile (FIA) and Grade A Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) international circuit, with the track taking advantage of the site’s natural 60-metre elevation differential.
“Another unique feature of the track is a night lighting facility that will ensure action day and night,” said FASTrack Iskandar in a statement.
Designed by Hermann Tilke, whose works include Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit and Circuit of Americas in the USA, Fastrackcity will offer seven different track configurations.
“This is one of the most exciting motorsports concepts I have ever been invited to work with. I truly believe we can build a unique track for motorsports entertainment,” said Tilke.
The duty-free circuit also boasts a high security parking facility for highly prized vehicles. In addition, there will be food and beverage outlets, family-friendly recreational facilities, a motorsports-themed hotel and a park.
“The construction of Fastrackcity is a major milestone in the development of Malaysia’s motorsports industry. It will receive a huge boost with the upcoming development of this township, which aims to be the destination of choice for all automotive businesses and enthusiasts in the region and beyond,” said PM Najib.
FASTrack Iskandar noted that its completion, along with the proposed Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail, will complement Iskandar Malaysia’s vision of becoming Southern Peninsular Malaysia’s most developed region.
A joint venture between FASTrack Autosports and property developer UEM Sunrise, the project is expected to create 1,200 jobs and could see up to 350,000 more tourists coming into Malaysia every year, said Mr Najib.
