13,300 divorcees have applied for new flats in the past five years.

Around 13,300 divorcees applied for Build-to-Order (BTO) or balance flats from the Housing Board from 2011 to May 2015, said National Development Minister Lawrence Wong during a parliamentary session on Monday, 14 March.

Of this number, about two in three were allowed to select a unit, he noted in a written reply. He was responding to a query from MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC, Gan Thiam Poh, regarding the number of divorcees purchasing or renting HDB flats.

Meanwhile, about 13,600 divorcees bought a resale flat in the open market, while 12,100 applied for rental flats during the past five years, said the Minister.

For rental flats, approximately 50 percent of them were successful in their application, added Mr Wong.
