Holiday at home

Contributor 27 May 2016

You may be too busy to fly off to the Caribbean for a holiday away from the city, you can still enjoy resort-style relaxation in your own home. Here are four real-life examples from which you can draw some inspiration.

Oceanfront (condo)

Being located in Sentosa already lends this home a somewhat resort-like feel. Its interior design, whose main components are wooden floors and walls in simple earth tones, complements this aspect of the house.

The wood elements in the bathroom are balanced with mosaic tiles, while the bedding and tatami-style mats on the bedroom floor, coupled with wooden lattice doors that resemble the traditional shoji (sliding doors made from wood and translucent washi paper), evoke a Japanese Zen ambience.

Space-Factor-Park-Villa-Bedroom Park Villas (landed home)Dark-coloured wooden cabinet doors against light-coloured floor and wall tiles, together with pebbles, stones and grey mosaic tiles in the shower area, give the bathroom of this Park Villas landed home a spa environment. In the bedroom, dark wood surfaces and furniture, including a four-poster bed frame and heavy chest of drawers, continue the resort theme of the house. Floor-to-ceiling curtains, along with bedlinen in earthy colours, complete the look.

Toh Crescent (landed home)The exterior of this impressive five-bedroom residence at Toh Crescent combines wooden panels and smooth grey tiles with water features and greenery for a contemporary resort look. The grey tiles lend an air of modernity to the property, while the glass balconies, together with the water features and small trees they overlook, give it a relaxed vibe. Indeed, the balconies are the perfect place to put one’s feet up and enjoy a chilled glass of wine at the end of a long day.
