If you happen to walk or cycle past The Crest condominium this weekend, keep a lookout for the development’s latest attraction – a free laser light show happening four nights a week.
The five-minute laser show started on 1 July and runs continuously from 8pm to 9pm every Thursday to Sunday till the end of this month. It is believed to be the first involving a condominium under development here.
The developer, a Wing Tai-led consortium, has built a marquee along Alexandra Road to house guests interested in catching the light and sound spectacle.
Sources close to the developer told PropertyGuru that the idea for a laser show came about two to three months ago, and aims to draw potential buyers.
Wing Tai worked together with Showtec Group, the company responsible for the laser lighting display at the National Day Parade, to create the show at a cost of between $20,000 and $30,000.
It uses laser beams to map out the project’s unique architecture. Designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, a Pritzker Prize winner, the building’s exterior is designed to look like a blooming tree.
Approval had to be sought from various government agencies, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) for the laser show to proceed.
Subsequently, pamphlets advertising the laser show were sent out to nearby residents and to Wing Tai’s client base.
Going forward, several talks will be held at the marquee this month to draw in crowds, including one on the benefits of cycling (the development is close to the cycling route alongside Alexandra Canal).
In addition, PropertyGuru understands that several private events will take place at the marquee, including one involving the Tian Fu Club, an association for new immigrants from mainland China.
The laser show is being held in conjunction with Wing Tai’s one-bedroom campaign, which enables buyers to convert a one-bedroom unit into a two-bedder through free interior design worth $80,000. Such plans are still subject to approval from the government.
At the same time, a 15 percent discount is being offered to buyers of its one- to five-bedroom units.
Excluding the discount, prices start from $1.133 million for a one-bedroom unit measuring 635 sq ft ($1,784 psf). In May, seven units were sold at a median price of $1,707 psf.
Meanwhile, the laser show is expected to create some hype for the condo, which has seen lacklustre sales since it was launched to buyers in mid-2014. To date, only 123 of the 469 units have been sold (26 percent of the project).
Located in the Good Class Bungalow (GCB) area of Jervois and Bishopsgate, The Crest is close to Redhill MRT station and the Orchard Road shopping belt.
The 99-year leasehold project is expected to obtain its TOP in 2018.
