Frasers Centrepoint was one of the night’s big winners.
Real estate industry chiefs clinched some of the top awards at this year’s Singapore Corporate Awards, considered the Oscars of the local corporate sector.
Frasers Centrepoint’s Lim Ee Seng won the Best CEO award for large-caps, while William Liem of Tuan Sing Holdings and Kong Chee Min of Centurion Corporation won in the mid-cap and small-cap categories, respectively, reported The Straits Times.
The large-cap category includes listed companies with market capitalisation of $1 billion and above; $300 million to less than $1 billion for the mid-cap category; and less than $300 million for the small-cap category.
Meanwhile, City Developments Limited (CDL) received a Special Recognition Award for being a role model in pioneering sustainability practices within the building industry. The award category was launched this year to recognise outstanding and exemplary conduct in corporate governance.
“The recognition of CDL as a champion for sustainability for this first award is timely, given investors’ need for better visibility on non-financial information of listed companies and their role in sustainability practices,” said Willie Cheng, Chairman of the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) and co-chairman of the awards.
“CDL first embarked on its journey to realign its business and operations with environmental sustainability in 1995, under the visionary leadership of our late Deputy Chairman Mr Kwek Leng Joo,” CDL’s Deputy CEO Sherman Kwek revealed.
Held at Resorts World Convention Centre, the annual event recognises listed companies and individuals who have helped raise local corporate disclosure standards and corporate governance.
“The awards provide a multi-dimensional view of what constitutes an effective board: transparency, accountability, performance, good processes and best practices,” said Torsten Linke, Head of Private Banking Southeast Asia and Singapore Branch Manager of Bank Julius Baer, the sponsor of the awards.
Overall, nine companies were recognised for the high quality of corporate governance in their board practices, 14 companies were honoured for the high standards of disclosure in their financial reporting, 13 companies were commended for excellence in their investor relations, while one company received a special award for exemplary corporate governance.
Co-organised by the SID, ISCA and The Business Times, the awards were supported by the Singapore Exchange and the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority.
