Balcony living

Contributor 22 Jul 2016

Not everyone has the luxury of a balcony in their flat or condo, and those who do too often use it merely as a space to dry their laundry, not realising its full potential. It can actually be a great place to relax, so why not explore that possibility? Here are six balconies to give you some ideas for your own living space.

Simple but stylish does it. Soft furnishings like an area rug, as well as cushions and throws on the chairs, give the space a calm, laidback ambience. In contrast, the potted topiary in the corner lends a visually interesting and considerably grandiose touch to the balcony.

ID-DHOME STUDIO Furniture in warm, reddish and orange tones stand out against the dark wooden flooring in this balcony. A curated feel is achieved with the use of one main colour and style; in this case, furniture inspired by pop art. The water feature, lights and large potted plant complete the look.

You’ve probably heard that less is more, and this balcony exemplifies that notion. Black wooden floorboards and woven furniture are contrasted with cushions in white and neutral shades, and wooden sliding doors provide aesthetic variation without being visually jarring.

Transform your balcony into your own little garden, with a variety of potted plants. A wooden bench and table give an outdoorsy feel to this balcony, with a yellow woven chair and Moroccan-inspired tiles add a pop of colour.
