UPDATED: The Housing and Development Board (HDB) launched 4,841 Build-To-Order (BTO) flats in Hougang, Sembawang, Yishun and Tampines on Wednesday, 17 August.

This is the HDB’s third sales launch in 2016, bringing the total number of BTO flats offered this year to 12,781 units. Unit types range from 2-room Flexi to 3Gen flats.

In a Facebook post, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong noted that more than 75 percent of the units offered are 4-room and smaller flats, while just under half are located in non-mature estates.

For example, a typical 3-room flat at the Buangkok Woods project in Hougang costs about $185,000, said Wong, adding that eligible first-timer couples can apply for housing grants of up to $80,000.

However, the cheapest homes for sale are the 2-room Flexi flats at Buangkok Woods and Valley Spring at Yishun, which are going from $79,000, excluding grants. With grants, the flats would only cost about $4,000.

“At these prices, first-time home buyers should be able to finance most or even all of the monthly loan instalment using their CPF alone,” Wong wrote.

Interested buyers can submit their applications online at http://goo.gl/yA4WJs by 23 August.

The next BTO launch will take place in November, where 5,090 BTO flats will be launched in Bedok, Bidadari, Kallang Whampoa and Punggol. Another 5,000 balance flats will also be offered, said the HDB.

November BTO

The next BTO to be launched in November is more appealing, especially Kallang and Bedok. Other than Clementi, Bedok is the only mature district with a one-stop town centre that consolidates the essential amenities within a short walking distance. Kallang does not have a town centre but its advantages are obviously its proximity to city centre and the scenic view of Kallang River.
