International travel is to blame. It has made us all hanker after the luxuries of a resort. The swimming pool, the spa and the gym (or at the very least, a chic restaurant) are now a predictable part of the modern experience – and that has leaked into our daily lives. For many people today, the facilities surrounding their home are just as important as the space they actually buy.
Singapore is not scarce of a few five star hotels. Nor is it shy of uber-luxury developments that bring the hotel experience to your doorstep. Which means the competition is fierce between developers attempting to provide the ultimate in leisure and fitness activity at the residences they build. To stand out, they really do have to offer the unusual.
A velodrome anyone? Yes, Westwood Residences has just such a device, allowing you to blast round a circuit on your carbon fiber monster at ludicrous speeds without even leaving Westwood Avenue.
Surprisingly, this is not a gimmick. The bike theme has been carried throughout the whole development, including a children’s traffic garden – way more fun than it sounds – giving youngsters the chance to get to grip with cycling on a safe road environment; a children’s BMX adventure park for more advanced kids; a proper bike maintenance area, and a bicycle garage that can house 500 bikes, complete with biometric sensors.
You can of course get of your bike and swim in the 50-meter lap pool, pump yourself up in the main or aqua gym, or play tennis, basketball court or futsal on purpose built courts.
Or you could try the expanded gymnasium and Technogym branded equipment at Reignwood Hamilton Scotts on Scotts Road. Of course, the Wöhr Multiparker 720 and Sky Garages are the main eye-catchers here, but where there are expensive cars hanging in the sky, there are likely to be well equipped places for a workout.
The gym is next to a 45 meter lap pool, replete with cabanas and picnic umbrellas aside for sunbathers, so post-work-out relaxation is probably one of the most divine you are likely to experience.
Highline Residences is another, where health and fitness has actually been built into the fabric of the buildings.
Built by reputable developer Keppel Land, designed by award-winning architect Mok Wei Wei, with interiors by Tay Hiang Liang, this holds an Olympic-length swimming pool, fitness pavilion, children’s pool, outdoor fitness station, lawns, gardens, and a variety of outdoor areas designed with your health in mind. But it is the elevated green ridge at level 5 that really screams of luxury fitness.
Last but not least, may we suggest NorthWave EC? This is an Executive Condominium – existing as a more affordable alternative to condominiums for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents for the first ten years of its life, before being converted into private property and available for sale in the open market. Because public housing has followed the trend too, with amazing facilities provided to its tenants.
Woodland view, in Admiralty has a free shuttle to Woodlands MRT station and will be directly connected to the city center via the future Thomson MRT Line and North-South Expressway, but most importantly, it has a scents garden, a wading pool , a sun deck, gazebos, a Jacuzzi, a 50 meter swimming pool, barbecue pavilion, kids play deck, a recreational skate area, basketball/futsal court, fitness garden, forest adventure, pool Lounge, hydro-spa pool, reflexology park, gym, and badminton court.
If you fit the profile but also want to stay fit (and wealthier given all the upsides of this type of sale), NorthWave is a great investment.
