About 880,000 Singaporean households living in HDB flats will receive the next instalment of the GST Voucher – Utilities-Save (U-Save) rebate this month, announced the Ministry of Finance on Monday (3 April).

Depending on their HDB flat type, each eligible Singaporean household will receive a rebate of up to $65.

The GST Voucher – U-Save is one of three components under the permanent GST Voucher scheme. Expected to cost $190 million annually, the quarterly U-Save rebate helps HDB households offset part of their utility bills, effectively lowering overall household expenses.

“Annually, the permanent GST Voucher – U-Save scheme has enabled households in one- and two-room HDB flats to receive support which is equivalent to about three to four months of their utilities bills on average,” said the ministry.

“Those living in three- and four-room HDB flats receive support equivalent to about one to two months of their utilities bills.”

In addition, the ministry revealed that there will be a permanent increase of $40 to $120 to the annual GST Voucher – U-Save rebate from July 2017 onwards. Announced during Budget 2017, the increase aims to help households offset the hike in water prices.
