Systra, Meinhardt bag design contracts for Singapore-KL HSR project

Global engineering companies Systra and Meinhardt have been awarded two Reference Design Consultant (RDC) contracts by MyHSR Corporation, and is responsible for implementing the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail (HSR) project in Malaysia, reported Today Online.

This comes three months after American company Aecom was awarded the contract to design the Singapore infrastructure for the HSR project.

The two companies will provide the full range of multi-disciplinary services as well as the expertise required under the contracts.

The first is for the civil reference design works for two international stations – Iskandar Puteri in Johor and Bandar Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

The second, on the other hand, covers the civil reference design works for the first 38km from Bandar Malaysia Station to the state border between Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.

“This is a very prestigious project that all the world’s major engineering companies want to work on, and we are honoured to have been selected,” said Systra chief executive officer Pierre Verzat.

Meinhardt Group chief executive officer Omar Shahzad noted that the win gives a major impetus for their collaboration with Systra “to leverage our complementary skillsets, capabilities and local presence across the transportation sector”.

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) in February appointed Aecom to design the HSR project’s Singapore infrastructure.

Aecom’s responsibility – spanning civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical and other design services – includes working out the rail line’s alignment in Singapore.

Set for completion in 2026, the 350km HSR will reduce travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to just 90 minutes from almost five hours under normal traffic conditions.
