For any city dweller, living in an environment dominated by skyscrapers and hard, cold facades of glass and steel can often leave one thirsting for a little greenery. Come 2020, this thirst will be satisfied for Sydney’s urbanites. Just five kilometres from the Central Business District (CBD), a tranquil oasis of green, complete with a park and waterfall, will be unveiled that year.
It’s all part of the blueprint of Waterfall by Crown Group, a highly anticipated new property by the award-winning Australia-based developer. To be located on O’Dea Avenue in the inner-city suburb of Waterloo, the development will comprise 331 apartments spread across four buildings. The above-mentioned greenery will come from the use of natural materials, the planting of mature trees, plenty of outdoor spaces and private rooftop gardens. In addition, there’s the key feature that gave the development its name – a man-made waterfall that’s set to be Australia’s tallest at 22 metres (seven storeys tall).
Crown Group has also pledged to develop a public park on a plot adjacent to the condo’s compound, extending the green space beyond the limits of the development. It is perhaps unusual for a private developer to volunteer the creation of a public space, but Crown Group CEO Iwan Sunito explains: “Our vision is for the buildings to feel like an extension of the green space, a place where residents can relax and breathe.”

Open layouts and floor to ceiling windows will provide airiness and panoramic views of the surroundings.
Built in the style of a tropical resort, the development is imagined as a sanctuary for city dwellers who want to enjoy proximity to nature without compromising on the convenience of city living. Sunito affirms this vision, saying: “With Waterfall by Crown Group, we set out to revolutionise the use of green space in residential developments, breaking away from tradition to cater to people looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle. It’s everyone’s desire to find a place of escape, a place of tranquillity. Waterfall by Crown Group provides a sense of this place, where people can feel a connection with both nature and the urban environment at once.” It is apparent that the property is a representation of Crown Group’s ambitious desire to set a new green benchmark in high-rise residential design.
Besides the innovative green features, Waterfall by Crown Group is well-equipped with all the amenities expected of a luxury residential development. There’s a gym, function space, and even a music room. Topping it all are the rooftop infinity pool and the rooftop lounge offering a panoramic bird’s eye view of Sydney. Retail space will also be made available, bringing traffic and life to the area, as well as giving residents the convenience to shop without having to make a trip into the city centre.
This AU$395 million project is the latest in Crown Group’s string of successful launches. Previously, the developer had sold more than AU$380 million worth of apartments at Infinity, its award-winning project at Green Square. With an imposing glass façade that curves fluidly into an infinite loop, the development is considered ground-breaking, in terms of its architecture and the style of city living it proposes. It’s a formula for success that the company seems to have figured out and looks ready to repeat with Waterfall by Crown Group.
Waterloo is widely considered one of Sydney’s most promising suburbs, with housing prices and population numbers there both growing at a rapid rate. The neighbourhood’s most recent triumph was beating Sydney University to be announced as the site of a new metro station, with construction due to begin in 2018. In line with that, the government has plans to revamp the whole Waterloo area with quality high-rise developments. Waterfall by Crown Group is set to be the jewel in this suburb, a landmark that manages to outshine the rest.
