Owner has up to 14 days to refund the security deposit to tenant, however, in terms of checking the apartment, it is not advisable to take a few days to check as it creates a grey area where tenant may argue that the defect or damage was not there when they left the place, and may create unnecessary inconvenience thereafter like going to small claims tribunal and etc.

As much as possible, landlord should show up at handover to inspect the premises, or appoint someone who can make decisions to show up and do the inspection. Otherwise, a certain level of understanding must be struck between landlord and tenant for the turnaround arrangement. Read More
