Hi. I am a Singapore PR (30yo) and my husband is a foreigner. I am in the midst of applying for Singapore Citizen and he is in the midst of applying for Singapore PR. We are looking to buy a property in Singapore. What are our options?

Hi,

For now its only private condo property (new or resale). With citizenship, your options will open up to HDB as well. Thanks and hope it helps.

Hi Ms,

As of now, you are only eligible to purchase private property. Do take note that if you were to purchase under your single name, you will be liable to pay a 5% ABSD. If you were to purchase under joint-names, ABSD is 15%.

If both you and your husband got your Citizenship and PR respectively, you will be eligible to purchase a HDB resale flat, or a private property. You can apply for ABSD remission as it will be your first matrimonial home.

Hence, I would strongly suggest you only get your property (be it HDB or private property) after you get your Citizenship. It will be massive savings on your part.

Once you get citizenship, your option will be opened up to buy any properties in Singapore. For now, it's private condo.
Suggest you monitor the market situation while waiting for the application process. If the approval takes more than one year, it may not worthwhile the wait if market runs up more than 5% (the tax savings you get by citizenship)
