We are looking to rent out our master bed room. So this couple came to check the house and they verbally agreed to move in on September first week , we realise that we can’t move out by September and needed a few days to toggle before moving out from the master for them to occupy . So the potential tenant paid a deposit for security (to chope) la . Haven’t signed anything yet , but he kept pestering to draft the contract to sign and pass him the keys . We made it clear that we will draft the contract to sign on the day he moves in and pass him the key then.
Then now he not happy not sure if he made a report cause my hubby bank account on hold . We immediately returned him back his deposit and told him it’s better we don’t deal as seems like he is in a rush and we can’t meet him half way of moving out immediately. Now question being , what do you think will happen with this report that he made ? And how do I move forward . Because even after passing him back his deposit he isn’t replying us . Let me know if we did anything wrong or are liable for anything. Nothing was signed.

You will need to check with the bank on what the background is for holding back the account. This is something outside what we are able to advise. I have my doubts about whether the prospect can just make a report and the bank can just hold this account just by the side of their story.

I doubt that the tenant’s report is the cause of the bank account suspension. It would be a good idea to check with the bank directly for clarification. Regarding the rental unit, as long as no agreements have been signed and you’ve returned the deposit, you can move forward with renting it to someone else.
