Yes this is a fundamental question on title to the land.
"Estate in Fee Simple" is one of two forms of Freehold property, the other form being "Estate in Perpetuity". While there are differences in ownership rights, they nonetheless accord the holder a continued ownership of the land. It is a forever land.

Leasehold land in contrast, is where the holder has ownership limited by time. The period varies, 30yrs, 60yrs, 99yrs, 999yrs, 9999yrs etc. At the end of the leasehold period, ownership REVERTS to the underlying owner, it is returned. The most common form is where the state grants a 99yrs lease to the current owner. The state (grantor) thus holds the reversionary title or reversionary interest in the land.

While 999yrs and 9,999yrs are technically leasehold titles, the relatively long life of these titles make them seem like Freehold titles. In practice, they are mostly priced and treated like Freehold properties.
Nonetheless it would be good to inspect for any conditions surrounding the grant of the land by the grantor.
