CapitaLand ran up BCA Awards

12 Oct 2009

This year, CapitaLand won six Green Mark for Buildings Gold awards from the Building and Construction Authority, bringing the total number to 26 since 2006.

The winning projects were The Wharf Residence, Six Battery Road, Sembawang Shopping Centre, The Integrated Civil, Cultural, Retail & Entertainment Hub @ Vista Xchange, Capital Tower and One George Street. The green features of these buildings range from water-saving technologies to clean energy facilities, such as the built-in solar photovoltaic system of the Sembawang Shopping Centre.

Besides achieving multiple awards from the Green Mark scheme, CapitaLand also got similar certifications and awards from different institutions, including the 2007-08 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award from the Singapore Environment Council (CapitaLand was the only developer to receive this award in 2008) and a Gold Level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Core & Shell (LEED-CS) Precertification for a construction project in China called Raffles City Chengdu.

“Going green is a natural extension of CapitaLand’s credo of ‘Building for People to Build People’ as our green efforts will benefit our generation as well as future generations,” said a CapitaLand spokesman.

Having amassed green design awards, the company made it to the Sustainability Yearbook 2009, one of the most authoritative publications on corporate sustainability. CapitaLand, the only Singaporean firm cited in the ranking, was named a sustainability leader in the construction industry.

The developer has been keen on environmentally–friendly design since 2006. Its Green Committee introduced an environment management system to minimise the environmental impact of the entire life cycle of a construction project. The company has also implemented an environmental tracking system that minimises electricity and water consumption and waste production.
