A consistent Green Mark awardee, City Developments Ltd. (CDL) has solidified its reputation in the field of sustainable design by garnering the greatest number of awards conferred by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in 2009.
Five residential properties of CDL received Green Mark awards under different categories: Platinum for the Quayside Isle Collection at Sentosa Cove; Gold Plus for the Arte, Livia; Gold for Millennium Residence @ Sukhumvit, and Anderson 18. The commercial projects of CDL also earn awards: GoldPlus for Tampines Concourse and Gold for the New Tech Park, and Plaza by the Park. The newly introduced CDL Office was also awarded a GoldPlus under the office interior category. In addition, two Green Mark re-certifications were given to the Republic Plaza and Pantech 21, bringing the total Green Mark awards of CDL to 11 this year.
“It is indeed heartening that the government has been actively encouraging developers to adopt green features and technologies as well as for builders to harness eco construction practices,” said CDL managing director Kwek Leng Joo.
The environmentally-friendly practices of CDL, which go beyond building design to include site management and construction process has also been awarded the highest tier of the first Built Environment Leadership (BEL) awards. This award was given only to organisations that made significant contributions to the development and promotion of safe, sustainable and quality buildings and infrastructures.
Typically, for each project, CDL allocates 2-5% of the total construction cost to green technologies and features. Spending on sustainable design pays off in terms of reduced consumption of natural resources, financial savings and even higher capital value of the developments.
