Name Suggestions for Marina Bay Attractions, Open to Public

21 Oct 2009

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is asking from the public for recommendations and suggestions for names of the new Marina Bay Bridge and park. This park features the theme “Aspirations for life in Singapore” that is a collection of the artworks of 27 youths.

Some names that were currently proposed for the bridge are The Double Helix or The DNA Bridge for the pedestrian section.  For the vehicular traffic segment, the name Bayfront Bridge was suggested to be parallel with the Sheares Bridge.

“ImagINation Park” was the tentative name for the art park which is located next to the seating gallery of the Marina Bay floating platform. The name uses a capital letter N to emphasize the word “Nation”.

URA Deputy Director of Urban Planning and Design Andrew David Fassam said that the bridge and art park are already under construction and are expected to be completed by the end of next year.

“The bridge and the park are set to become new urban landmarks. We would like the public be part of these exciting developments by participating in their naming,” he added.

The invitation for the public’s suggestion for these two Marina Bay attractions is open until December 14. They can visit the revamped Marina Bay website at www.marina-bay.sg to submit their name suggestions.
