Frasers’ generosity has reached the United Kingdom, with the launching of Fraser Suites Edinburgh, a serviced residence project on the “Royal Mile” of the city. The property is the second project of the Singapore-based Frasers in Scotland. The 100-unit Fraser Suites Glasgow was the first project, which was launched in 2007.
The 200 year-old Edinburg City Council building project contains one-bedroom and 75 studio flats.
According to Frasers, the historic Victorian façade of the building was preserved, while the inner design was renovated to provide the needs of leisure and business travellers.
Basic features include broadband Internet access and iPod docking stations, a free city shuttle service, a restaurant, a breakfast suite and an on-site gym.
Based on Frasers, the property notes a homecoming of a sort for the company, whose founders (Scotsmen David Chalmers Neave and John Fraser) arrived to Singapore in 1883 and founded Fraser & Neave. Today, the company is a conglomerate with business all over the world.
“Edinburgh is a major centre for business and tourism and is an integral part of our growth strategy in Europe”, said Guus Bakker, Frasers Hospitality’s chief operating officer for the Middle East and Europe.
“Globally, we are on track to grow from our current 4,727 serviced residences to more than 9,000 units by 2011”, Bakker added.
With the launching of Fraser Suites Edinburg, Frasers Group currently runs a total of 12 properties in Europe, which include two in Paris, one in Glasgow and eight in London.
Currently, Frasers runs 31 serviced residence properties in Europe, Australia and in the Far East, and for this year, it will open properties in Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, China, Budapest and Bahrain.
