Premium will be charge to guests for an overnight stay in hotels at Sentosa’s Resorts World when it launches next year.
Tan Hee Teck, chief executive officer of Resorts World, said yesterday that hotels in most theme parks abroad typically have higher rates, compared to the same properties here in Singapore. This is due to the wide range of attractions offered to visitors, such as the first Universal Studios in Singapore.
Travelling families, with their young ones, will experience the convenience of letting their tired kids rest before going out again, without the need for paying extra costs of transport. Minimum rates of Sentosa’s five-star properties range from $375 up to $650.
Although, the room rates at Resorts Worlds have not been well established, The Straits Times knows that theme park hotels can charge 30 percent more than hotels of the same class outside.
However, director of service for hotel Mr. Klaus Kohlmayr from Integrated Decisions and Systems International, said that it might not be a good idea to apply in this weak market.
“Leisure markets are the most price-sensitive, especially for families. They might decide it is cheaper to stay outside and take a taxi in for the day”, he said.
Still, the Resorts World is confident in attracting crowds during its opening next year.
The 49 hectare integrated resort – the second project in Singapore after Marina Bay – expects over 15 million visitors after a year of operation. The resort, along with its casino, shopping, theme park, and other attractions, is a perfect destination where people can stay for up to one week, said Mr. Tan. The project is set to open in Q1 of 2010.
Of the six hotels in the resort, Festive Hotel, Hotel Michael, Maxims Tower, and Hard Rock Hotel, will be available by Q1 next year.
About 1,350 rooms will be ready for the soft opening of the resort, with rooms for sale by year’s end.
Yesterday, a chance was given to the media to take a peek of the US$223 million Hard Rock Hotel. There will be 26 meeting rooms, 10 suites, 350 rooms, and a ballroom, big enough to accommodate 7,300 people.
Live performances can be viewed by guests in the outdoor venue from the balconies of their rooms.
Since the resort aims to be a family destination, the Hard Rock Hotel will have big rooms to accommodate up to six people.
To keep up with the music industry theme of Hard Rock, the hotel will have guitar-shaped decorations and musical motifs. Mirrors in the bathroom, with light bulbs, will let guests feel like being a rock star in their dressing room.
HPL Hotels & Resorts manager Mr. Stephen Lau announced that another Hard Rock Café will be built in Singapore together with the Hard Rock Hotel opening.
The café, which will be quite smaller than the Cuscaden Road’s Hard Rock Café, will be located on the Festive Walk of Resorts World – a pedestrian mall filled with restaurants and shops.
The 19-year-old branch at Orchard Road will also be redeveloped, said Mr. Lau.
