WEE Hur Holdings has secured a $103.6-million project from Singapore property investment giant CapitaMall Trust, to reconstruct Jurong Entertainment Centre.
The project involves building a five-storey shopping and entertainment complex with a three-level basement.
The Olympic-size ice-skating rink at the centre of the building will be the crown jewel of the complex. It will be the first Olympic-size rink in Singapore, replacing a smaller one at the former Jurong Entertainment Centre.
Operated by Fuji Ice Palace, the rink was one of the only two in the country. It was the venue of the Singapore National Figure Skating Championships and ice-hockey tournaments.
In February 2008, the previous Jurong Entertainment Centre was closed for redevelopment.
Aside from the Olympic ice rink, the new complex will also house a supermarket, retail shops, restaurants and a multi-screen cinema.
The building has a gross floor area of 29,433 sq m.
This first project of Wee Hur for CapitaMall Trust was secured from HSBC Institutional Trust Services (Singapore) through its subsidiary Wee Hur Construction.
“Our ability to be selected by leading property developers demonstrates our established reputation in the industry,” said Goh Yeow Lian, the executive chairman of Wee Hur.
Construction work will start on March 31 and is expected to be completed by November 2011.
