PropertyGuru launches revamped Rumah.com portal

27 Oct 2011

PropertyGuru, Asia’s leading online property portal network, has launched a rebranded www.Rumah.com, Indonesia’s number one property website, as part of plans to target the growing number of wealthy Indonesians looking to buy overseas property.

“Indonesians are one of the major (groups of) home buyers in the Singapore property market, along with mainland Chinese and Malaysians,” said Tejaswi Chunduri, real estate analyst at PropertyGuru.

Data from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) shows that 1,706 Indonesians, including permanent residents (PRs), acquired private homes in Singapore last year, after Malaysians (2,060) and mainland Chinese (1,770).

The website revamp is timely, as Indonesia’s economy continues to grow despite the downturn in the US and Eurozone. The positive market sentiment has also attracted more local and foreign investments, recording a 24.3 percent and 21.1 percent increase respectively in Q2 2011. To support continued growth, the Indonesian government has pledged to build new roads and expand airports and ports in the country.

Established in 2007, Rumah.com has more than 120,000 residential and commercial property listings, with more than 900,000 users viewing over 11 million pages monthly. As part of the revamp, a new housing directory now offers consumers the most detailed information of the best properties in Indonesia, complete with images and location information. This user-friendly feature helps property agents, agencies and developers to more effectively reach Indonesian buyers and investors, as well as bring Indonesian properties to buyers outside the country.

“The response so far to Rumah.com by Indonesian developers, agents and advertisers has completely exceeded our expectations. We’ve also seen a 53 percent growth in traffic to the website. Going forward, we are excited about the future of Rumah.com as well as the property sector there, which is growing rapidly,” said Steve Melhuish, Group CEO of PropertyGuru Group.
