Morning Update

To cope with the growing population, the government has identified the areas of Bidadari and Tengah as potential residential estates.

The plan was highlighted yesterday by National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan in an addendum to the President’s address.

In a statement, Mr Khaw reinforced his ministry’s commitment to achieve sustainable economic, social and environmental outcomes.

"We cannot be certain what the future will bring…But we can maximise the opportunities for our future generations by preparing well ahead," said Mr Khaw. "They will not be needed soon, but we are planning ahead so as to retain flexibility," he added.

Located within the central region, Bidadari was once a cemetery, but was demolished and converted into a popular park. Meanwhile Tengah is a forested area in the West and is in close proximity to the Tengah airbase.

In related news, Mr Khaw reaffirmed his ministry’s goal to create better living standards for all Singaporeans. For more details, please click here.
