S$9m expansion in the pipeline for RSYC

22 Feb 2011

The Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC) plans to upgrade its facilities and services to meet the needs of a new generation of boaters and marina-going club members in Singapore.

After 11 years of operation from its modern yacht club premises, RSYC is set to start a new development phase to increase its dry berth facilities to about 300, from the existing 110 boats, making it the yacht club with the newest addition of dry berth facilities on the island. This is on top of the club’s 127 wet berths at its current West Coast Ferry Road location.

One of the key highlights of the expansion project is the five-storey vertical dry stack, which will cost about S$9 million and will be able to accommodate 300 boats, each up to 35 ft in length.

Aside from upgrading the berthing facilities, the club plans to develop a four-storey adjoining wing to double its accommodation rooms to about 60 from the existing 32 rooms and suites, as well as provide members with more facilities.

Established in 1826, the club relocated to its current premises in August 1999, its third headquarters since 1920. In June last year, the membership allowed the Main Committee to expand, a plan conceived by the RSYC committee some two years ago.

Aside from the two new buildings, the club also plans to upgrade the existing Clubhouse.

The expansion project will start in Q1 2011, with construction of the new dry berths to be completed in six months. Meanwhile, work on the new accommodation wing will likely be completed by the middle of 2012.
