City Developments Limited (CDL) has been honoured as the 2012 Asia Pacific Green Builder of the Year, as part of the 2012 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Green Excellence Awards.
The awards were conferred to Asia Pacific companies that excelled in green product and technology innovation across various industries, with CDL representing the real estate sector.
CDL emerged as the winner from a shortlist including five property developers, who passed a rigorous measurement-based assessment and benchmarking process, with detailed criteria on green initiatives, strategies ad achievements.
Particularly, CDL was recognised for the “adoption and implementation of green concepts and technologies in the design and construction of its projects and the constant education of its customers as to its offerings and the benefits to them has made it an institution in green buildings and a trend setter in the increasingly fast paced green buildings movement,” as stated in Frost & Sullivan’s report.
Commenting on the new accolade, Kwek Leng Joo, Managing Director at CDL, said “We are honoured to be recognised for our pioneering efforts in integrating environmental priorities and long-term sustainability as part of our business strategy.”
“For over a decade now, CDL’s corporate strategy has been founded on a triple bottom line approach for continued growth and business excellence. We have established policies to conserve as we construct. We strive to develop and manage properties in an energy-efficient and cost-efficient manner, while also influencing various stakeholders and supply chains through outreach initiatives.”
He added that their 37 Green Mark certified buildings between 2008 and 2011 have saved approximately S$19.7 million in electricity yearly.
