The new 38-storey One Raffles Place Tower Two (pictured) ushers in a new era for Singapore’s central business district (CBD), said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

“The opening of Tower Two reflects the confidence property developers see in Singapore’s economy and the important role Raffles Place plays in our commercial centre,” said Shanmugaratnam, during the tower’s grand opening yesterday.

Comprising 360,000 sq ft of prime Grade A office space, the tower now brings the overall space at One Raffles Place to 860,000 sq ft.

Wee Ee Cheong, Chairman of OUB Centre, said: “The opening of One Raffles Place Tower Two meets the growing demand for quality office space in Singapore’s most established business district.”

“Building on the legacy of Tower One, this new tower adds to Singapore’s changing skyline and commercial prosperity,” he added.

In terms of design, the new tower “stays faithful to the proportion of the original tower. The diagonal planes of Tower Two are inspired by the spacing of the windows in Tower One, and this gives a consistent and lasting impression of both towers as a whole”, said Japanese architect Paul Noritaka Tange, son of Professor Kenzo Tange who designed the first tower and UOB Plaza.

Tower Two has also been certified as a Green Mark Platinum building by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

In addition to its numerous green features such as a rainwater harvesting system and photovoltaic cells, it also features art pieces from famous artists in Italy, Japan, Singapore and the UK.

Tower Two currently has a range of tenants, including global recruitment agency Michael Page International.
