Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) will organise exhibitions at shopping malls over the next two years to raise awareness on features that will improve accessibility in public buildings.
The draft accessibility code is in its fourth review and the public can continue to contribute their ideas until tomorrow, reported The Straits Times.
According to Tan Chuan-Jin, Senior Minister of State for National Development, caregivers of wheelchair users, the hearing and visually-impaired and family-friendly groups have so far submitted ideas for better facilities. Suggestions include mandatory requirements for designated parking areas for parents with young children in strollers, handrails for wheelchair users and nursing rooms in more buildings.
Tan was guest-of-honour at the launch of BCA’s first exhibition at Marina Square held over the weekend.
