Asia is set to replace the Middle East as home to the world’s tallest building after UAE-based property developer Emaar announced plans to build a new tower on the continent that will soar above 1km.
Emaar’s Chairman Mohamed Alabbar noted that the site for the project had been identified, but did not disclose its location.
Commenting on the ambitious development, Alabbar said: “I want to try. It is quite a task with safety issues and making sure it is done right.”
The developer was also behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, currently the world’s tallest tower at 828 metres or 2,716 ft high. Meanwhile, Prince Alwaleed of Saudi Arabia is developing the new 1km-tall Kingdom Tower (pictured) in Jeddah.
Reports quoted Alabbar as saying that his new project in Asia will be “a little taller” than Kingdom Tower.
