New York City could get more micro-apartment buildings as its Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) announced that new requests for proposals on other micro-apartment sites will be issued, reported The Observer.
An agency spokesperson added that they are “considering RFPs (requests for proposals) for two or three micro-unit developments later this year. We’re in the process of vetting a number of city-owned sites, and RFP guidelines will be tailored to the chosen sites”.
The announcement comes a few months after several firms were selected winners of a contest to build affordable micro-apartment units in the city.
The developers will construct a 55-unit apartment project (pictured) on a site at 335 East 27th Street in Kips Bay. Unit sizes will range from 250 to 370 sq ft and will use prefabricated techniques.
40 percent of the units are considered affordable, with monthly rents between US$940 (S$1,165) and US$1,800 (S$2,231).
