Top honour for property player

The highest National Day Award this year – the Distinguished Service Order (Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang) – was presented to Chua Thian Poh, the Chairman and CEO of public-listed Ho Bee Land.

The Order is awarded to any individual who has performed within Singapore any act or series of acts constituting distinguished conduct.

According to media reports, Chua is honoured for his leading role in the Chinese community and contributing to its diverse groups, such as business and social services, medical and clan organisations.

He is also the President of the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, Chairman of Ren Ci Hospital, Chairman of Business China, Chairman of Board of Trustees of Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC), and Honorary President of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI).

The National Day Awards honour various forms of merit and service to Singapore, and this year saw 3,354 National Day Awards recipients in 19 award categories.
