Energy saving 3for2 concept slated for international school

The United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA)’s new High School building, under construction on Dover Campus, will feature some energy-efficient technology.

Named the 3for2 concept, it allows developers to construct three floors within the standard space of two floors, without any impact on perceived floor-to-ceiling heights. This is achieved by using new construction techniques and efficient integration of new technologies, such as LED lighting panels, passively cooled ceiling tiles and high-performance chillers.

The 3for2 concept has the potential to reduce energy consumption by nearly 40 percent.

As part of a new partnership, UWCSEA and the Singapore-ETH Centre Future Cities Laboratory (SEC FCL), will implement the 3for2 concept in a 600 sq metre area, on a single floor within the upcoming building.

“We are passionate about reflecting the school’s sustainability-focused mission in the way we design, build and operate our buildings. Having the same people responsible for design, construction and operation brings a unique opportunity for excellence in delivering cost efficient buildings,” said Simon Thomas, Director of Facilities and Operations at UWCSEA.

The 3for2 project also involves leading companies in the green buildings sector such as Siemens Building Technologies.
