Plans to create a three-dimensional (3D) city model of Singapore was unveiled by the National Research Foundation (NRF) on 1 December.
Named Virtual Singapore, the collaborative data platform will enable users from different sectors to develop tools and applications for test-bedding concepts and services, planning and decision-making, and research on technologies to solve emerging and complex challenges for Singapore.
Users will be able to get insights, develop solutions and run simulations by creating visual models and realistic large-scale scenarios of Singapore.
For example, businesses can tap on the data and information within Virtual Singapore for business analytics, resource planning and management and specialised services.
It can also help to simulate possible scenarios of future amenities in estates, such as choosing the colour of paint for a HDB block or locating new communal facilities for residents.
Costing $73 million, Virtual Singapore is targeted to be ready by 2017 and will be deployed progressively.
