Keppel Land, CDL recognised for winning designs

14 Mar 2014

A total of 63 awards were handed out yesterday at the inaugural Singapore Good Design Mark Awards (SG Mark) by the Design Business Chamber of Singapore (DBCS).

Among the big winners were property heavyweights Keppel Land and City Developments (CDL).

Keppel Land clinched Gold for the Vertical Garden @ Ocean Financial Centre. The installation is the largest potted system Vertical Garden in the world, spanning about 110 metres in length and 20 metres in height. It holds 51,000 pots and 25 plant species.

The developer also won three SG Mark (Standard) Awards for Ocean Financial Centre, the Sliding Integrated Multi-function (SLIM) Wall System and Interactive Multimedia Wall @ The Glades Sales Gallery.

Designed to blend in with its landscaped background, the southeast façade of Ocean Financial Centre curves slightly to the road contour of Collyer Quay. Transparent glass on the exterior of the 245-metre building coupled with façade LED lighting projects the image of a lantern.

The SLIM Wall System is a “movable wall” in compact-sized apartments that allows for flexibility to configure room spaces, while the Interactive Multimedia Wall @ The Glades Sales Gallery is a multi-touch interactive media screen to replace the traditional physical scale model displaying a project’s nearby amenities.

CDL also won two SG Mark (Standard) Awards for Singapore’s first five-star resort hotel W Singapore Hotel – Sentosa Cove and CUBE 8, a proposed 36-storey condominium development with 177 units.

Other awardees were HDB, a Gold winner for My Waterway @ Punggol, and Orchard Turn Developments with the SG Mark (Standard) Award for ION Orchard.

Commenting, DBCS President Tai Lee Siang said, “We hope to galvanise greater support from all industry sectors and government agencies to bring Singapore design to scale greater heights locally and globally.”

The awards were handed out by Mr Tai along with Associate Professor Dr Yaacob Ibrahim (Minister for Communications and Information and Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs) at a gala dinner last night.
