Property firm Keppel Land will receive this year’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Champion award, along with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), for their efforts in developing environmentally-friendly buildings.
This latest accolade adds to Keppel Land’s 32 Green Mark awards so far, for properties such as Keppel Bay Tower and Ocean Financial Centre. The company also has outreach programmes, ‘Go Green with Keppel Land’ and ‘Tenants Go-green’, to encourage green office practices and eco-friendliness.
Meanwhile, NTU has been ramping up efforts to green its buildings by saving energy and reducing waste. To date, 18 building projects in NTU have been Green Mark-certified, out of which eight have attained the highest Platinum rating.
To qualify for the Green Mark Champion Award, a developer or building owner must have at least ten BCA Green Mark awards for their buildings, including at least three Platinum and three GoldPLUS awards.
The 2014 BCA Awards will take place on 22 May, where the BCA Green Mark Champions will be honoured and a record number of 225 BCA Green Mark awards will be given out. This includes 78 Platinum and 47 GoldPLUS awards, the highest number of projects receiving the higher Green Mark ratings since the scheme was launched in 2005.
The number of awards given to existing building projects with higher Green Mark ratings also increased from 16 last year to 39 this year; an aftermath of the second Green Building Masterplan which focuses on greening existing buildings.
