97 buildings of 200 metres or higher were completed around the world in 2014, an all-time record according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).
One of these buildings is found in Singapore in the form of Far East Organization’s Altez (pictured) in Tanjong Pagar.
Measuring 250 metres, the 62-storey high condominium on Enggor Street is among the top 30 tallest buildings that were completed globally during 2014. Construction for the 99-years leasehold residential development made of concrete started in 2010.
According to the CTBUH Year in Review report, 74 of the 97 buildings completed in 2014, or 76 percent, were located in Asia, marking the continent’s dominance of the tall-building industry in 2014.
However, the tallest building completed in 2014 is the One World Trade Center in New York City, which stands at 541 metres.
CTBUH projects 2015 will see the completion of between 105 and 130 buildings of 200 meters or more.
One of the developments CTBUH will be watching closely this year is KL118, formerly known as Menara Warisan Merdeka, in Kuala Lumpur. Its developers said the tower’s foundation work would be completed by Q3 2015. The proposed mega project will also have four residential blocks, estimated to be worth about RM5 billion, according to earlier media reports.
