Despite its status as the most expensive city in the world for the second year in a row, Singapore has been ranked the top Asian city for quality of living, according to the Mercer 2015 Quality of Living rankings.

Globally, the city-state is in 25th spot out of 230 cities covered on the list.

In Asia, Tokyo placed second, but was in 44th position overall. Other key cities in the region include Hong Kong (70), Seoul (72), Taipei (83), Shanghai (101), and Beijing (118).

Behind Singapore, the second highest-ranking city in Southeast Asia was Kuala Lumpur (84), Bangkok (117), Manila (136), and Jakarta (140).

Mario Ferraro, Global Mobility Leader for Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) at Mercer said: “The survey results show that Asia-Pacific is a hugely diverse and dynamic region.

“Within the same region there are some stark differences in quality of living, which organisations should take into account when deploying expatriates across borders.”

Meanwhile, Vienna offers the world’s best quality of living, while Baghdad was the lowest-ranking global city.
