Rail Corridor

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is calling on design professionals to submit an ambitious concept plan for Singapore’s Rail Corridor.

The proposals must cover four key activity nodes along the corridor – Buona Vista, the Bukit Timah Railway Station area, the Former Bukit Timah Fire Station and Kranji.

URA is also requesting for concept designs for two special interest areas within the corridor – Tanjong Pagar Railway Station and Choa Chu Kang.

“The proposals should have nature and greenery, celebration of heritage, and connectivity as hallmarks of the Rail Corridor experience. They should be sensitive to the local context so that the Rail Corridor will become more accessible and comfortable for the wider community to enjoy,” said URA.

Aside from accommodating the changing needs of the community, another key requirement is that it should retain and enrich the iconic ‘green corridor’ experience.

The tender exercise involves a two-stage selection process, and the proposals will be evaluated by an 11-member panel of experts.

The successful design team will be announced in October this year.

Can it not just be left as it is: Natural beauty? Why must it be designed and engineered? Too much time and money so everything must change?
