Living room tiles that are too rough and easily stained have riled residents of Senja Gateway in Bukit Panjang, media reports said.
A resident who wanted to be identified as Mr Lu revealed they had trouble removing shoeprints from the tiles which were also rough. The stains remained even after his home renovation contractor had applied chemicals to remove the shoeprints.
He then sought the help of the housing board which sent workers to assess the situation. The stains were removed by the workers after they left chemical agents on the affected areas for three minutes and washed twice.
Lu later discovered that most of his neighbours were also unhappy with the state of the tiles in their Build-to-Order (BTO) flats, which HDB launched in July 2010.
The disgruntled residents have even set up a closed group on Facebook called Senja Gateway Building Issues.
The housing board reportedly sent workers to flats with rough-tile issues to smoothen them out.
But one resident complained that the tiles were smoothened to the point of being slippery.
Replying to media queries, HDB said the tiles used were tested for their quality and anti-stain properties.
A spokesman for HDB acknowledged they have been receiving feedback on the tiles being easily stained and difficult to clean since January.
As such, HDB offered waxing and polishing services normally used in private projects, added the spokesman.
