Singapore has emerged as the world’s top destination for expats, beating countries like Sweden, New Zealand, Australia and Germany, reported Channel NewsAsia citing a HSBC survey.
The HSBC Expat Explorer, which polled 21,950 respondents from 39 countries, asked expats to rank countries based on financial well-being, career prospects, quality of life and ease of settling for partners and children.
Singapore received the highest score when it came to confidence in the economy, with 79 percent of expats within the city-state indicating that they are confident in the economy, higher than the global average of 48 percent.
59 percent of expats also believe Singapore is a good place for their career advancement, while 53 percent said they are able to acquire greater skills in Singapore than when they were at home.
Meanwhile, 65 percent of the respondents indicated that the health and well-being of their children improved after they moved to Singapore.
But while education for their children is more expensive in Singapore, expats believe that it is of better quality.
The survey also showed that Singapore “is a great destination for entrepreneurs”, with 87 percent of them indicating that it is a good place to start a new business.
“Singapore has worked hard to position itself as attractive for business. It is pleasing to see that its economic and political stability and general pro-business approach is being recognised by entrepreneurs globally,” said Matthew Colebrook, head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management at HSBC Singapore.
