Refuse collection fees for households in Singapore will be raised from 1 January 2017 due to higher operating costs, such as that for manpower, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Monday (7 November).
The monthly fees will increase to $8.25 for households living in HDB flats and condominiums that have not opted out of the public waste collection scheme, compared to the existing $7.49. Those living in landed homes will see their fees go up from the current $24.81 to $27.47.
The NEA appoints Public Waste Collectors (PWCs) to collect refuse from households via open tenders. Each household pays a monthly fee to its PWC through its monthly utility bill.
Household refuse collection fees are reviewed on a regular basis. The next review is scheduled for January 2019, said the NEA.
