Chestnut Nature Park South, Singapore’s sixth nature park, was officially opened by the National Parks Board (NParks) on Saturday, 2 April.
Located at the eastern end of Chestnut Avenue, the nature park measures approximately 17ha in size (26 football fields), and is the first in Singapore to offer separate mountain biking and hiking trails, measuring 1.6 km and 2.1 km respectively. Visitors can also look forward to bird watching.
To mark the occasion, a tree was planted by Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, Desmond Lee.
According to NParks, public feedback on the development of Chestnut Nature Park was gathered in 2014. “Suggestions such as shelters, mapboards, as well as hiking and biking trails, were all implemented,” said the agency.
In addition, park users will be able to rent bikes and buy snacks when a new kiosk opens in the middle of this year.
NParks also revealed that the 64ha Chestnut Nature Park North, the second phase of Chestnut Nature Park, will be completed in late 2016.
