The government has set aside around $187 million for the Estate Upgrading Programme (EUP) since the scheme was launched in 2000, said Minister of State for National Development Koh Poh Koon in Parliament on Wednesday (9 November).
Responding to MP Sylvia Lim’s question on the programme’s budget and schedule, Koh said the amount will be used to upgrade 63 private estates through nine batches.
The programme looks to enhance private estate infrastructure through improvement works such as landscaping, installation of playground equipment and widening of footpaths.
He noted that each project will have an average budget of about $20 million.
The pace of the programme, however, “will depend on the resources that are currently available”.
The Ministry of National Development (MND) will also have to coordinate with other government agencies, in terms of planning and upgrading works, to minimise inconvenience to the public and residents, said Koh.
“MND will invite nominations for future projects once we have a timeline for implementation,” he added.
