Singapore’s SkyTerrace @ Dawson and PARKROYAL on Pickering have been longlisted by the Royal Institute of British Architects for its inaugural international prize, reported The Straits Times.
Located in Queenstown, SkyTerrace @ Dawson is a public housing development featuring five apartment blocks that are 40 to 43 storeys high. Designed by SCDA Architects, the multi-award winning project contains six sky gardens and eco-friendly features, such as solar panels.
Meanwhile, PARKROYAL on Pickering is a luxury hotel near Chinatown known for its curvaceous and lush façade. Designed by Woha Architects, which drew inspiration from rice paddy fields, its exterior is adorned with over 10 plant species, including palms and creepers.
Other notable projects that made the longlist are EAAEmre Arolat Architecture’s Sancaklar Mosque in Istanbul, and the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan that was designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid.
In total, 30 buildings from 20 countries, including places of worship, private residential developments and large infrastructure developments, have been selected to undergo the first screening process.
The Royal Institute of British Architects, which has been honouring the top UK buildings for the past 20 years, will announce the winner of the best global project in December.
