The new fund is meant to encourage residents to initiate community activities.
The Housing and Development Board (HDB) is setting aside $500,000 in funding over a five-year period, to encourage residents to initiate projects that can help build greater cohesion and community spirit in public housing estates.
The HDB Friendly Faces, Lively Places Fund was announced by the Housing Board on Friday (20 May), at the start of HDB Community Week 2016. This new fund is an expansion of its Good Neighbours Project initiative.
Each project can apply for funding of up to $10,000 from the HDB.
“To be eligible for funding, the project must involve diverse groups and individuals in the community, such as youths, seniors and businesses,” said the HDB.
“It must also be able to generate community participation, or “match” up to 30 percent of the amount of funding applied for. This can be in the form of volunteering hours, professional services or equipment.”
The activity or event must also be free and open to the public. The fund will be made available all year round, added the HDB.
