Dear madam,

You will only eligible to purchase a private residential property if your husband intends to keep the ownership of the condo with his parent. If the condo is purchased under joint ownership with your husband, then ABSD will apply. There is no need to name your husband as essential occupier for private residential property.

Hi,

If your husband wants to keep his ownership of the private property, then the only option available is for you to get private property on your sole name. Buying resale HDB requires both names (1 owner 1 occupier at least), and this means both are required to sell off all private property ownership share.

In your situation, the best option is to buy a condo in your own name. You may like to consult a banker to understand your maximum loan amount, for mortgage payment it can be shared between you and your husband.

If you were to buy a condo together with your husband, ABSD will be payable as he already own a residential property.

Alternatively, if your husband is able to sell his share in the condo to his parents, then you may purchase a condo together with you husband with no ABSD or purchase a resale HDB together with your husband with him as an essential occupier.
