My owner has sold my unit and has given me three months to move out. I can stay but owner’s agent tells me the new owner will increase the rent. I have lived here for 10 months out of a 2-year contract. The TA doesn’t say much about this kind of case. Is there any compensation I can claim to the owner? Can the current TA be carried over in case of change of hands?

Hi Jee Kim,

A contract is binding. The new landlord will have to honor the TA that was signed between you and the old landlord. The new landlord can only increase the rent AFTER the expiration of the 2-year lease.
