We are shortly moving from uk to Singapore and would like to buy a property rather than rent . I would be very grateful if someone could clarify exactly what the rules are ? Are we only allowed to buy condos and appartments and cluster houses ? Do we need to all be PR to do this ? Do the new rules about stamp duty affect us ? thanks MG

Morning,

The new cooling measure affects everyone. Being a foreigner, you will be liable for 15% Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty, on top of the standard stamp duty. You are also only eligible to condo and apartment projects. Any purchased of landed property would require prior approval. If you managed to get PR status, then the ABSD would be reduced to 5%.

Morning MG,

You will subject to 15% ABSD + 3% BSD if you purchase a property as a foreigner.

If you are able to attain PR status, it will be 5% + 3% for first property.

As of now, as a foreigner, you are only able to purchase condos or apartments.
